The properties of Ginkgo Biloba are as follows:

  • It is a blood thinner due to its activity as a platelet-derived factor (PAF) antagonist, this allows for improved venous and arterial circulation and increased tissue oxygenation thus promoting memory and concentration and other cognitive functions.
  • It is an antioxidant because of its free radical-fighting activity.
  • It is a natural vasodilator useful as a remedy for allergies and asthma attacks.
  • It is an aphrodisiac that can promote blood supply in the corpora cavernosa of the penis and increases the production of nitric oxide responsible for erection, so it is useful in cases of erectile dysfunction. It also increases the synthesis of the pleasure hormone, dopamine.
  • It is also a female stimulant because it increases vascularization and oxygenation of genital tissues.
  • Finally, it is a nervous system relaxant and helps counteract nervous hunger.

Ginkgo Biloba: contraindications

  • Do not take Ginkgo Biloba during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
  • Do not expose yourself to the sun or use tanning lamps while taking Ginkgo Biloba because it is photo-sensitizing.
  • Avoid taking Ginkgo Biloba if you are taking medication with blood thinners and anticoagulants.
  • Keep out of the reach of children under 3 years of age.
  • Do not exceed recommended daily doses.
